King family.
Phillip Parker King, 1791-1856, son of Governor Philip Gidley King, carried out hydrographic surveys for the Royal Navy, among them surveys of the South American coast, while in command of H.M.S. Adventure, accompanied by H.M.S. Beagle. His son, Philip Gidley King, the younger, sailed with him on H.M.S. Adventure and later became midshipman of H.M.S. Beagle which continued the survey.
