Ruth Pitter was a British poet and artist. She began writing poetry at an early age, and published numerous volumes, to the delight of her small but loyal following. Her style was traditional, and she was easily overlooked by the public in favor of modern writers, but she was greatly admired by other poets. She was the first woman awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry, and was made a Commander of the British Empire in honor of her contributions to literature.
