Adolphus Frederick, Duke of Cambridge, was the seventh son of King George III. After studying at the University in Göttingen, he remained on the continent to study military strategy. He served with armies of Hanover and Britain, first as a Colonel, seeing action in the Napoleonic Wars. He was later made Duke, Privy Councillor, and also Field Marshall. A patron of the arts, he became popular in Britain and helped link the throne with the people.
