Parton earned his Harvard AB 1934. He became a journalist, author, editor, and publisher; he was publisher of American Heritage and Horizon magazines. He served during World War II as aide-de-camp to Brigadier General Ira C. Eaker, VIII Bomber Command, and as Secretary, General Staff, Mediterranean Allied Air Forces.
