Biographical notes:

Thomas McCurdy Vincent served as a U. S. Army officer in the Seminole and Civil wars. He was an instructor at West Point before the Civil War,1858-1861, and he served in the Adjutant General's office, Washington, D.C. during the war. Vincent was influential in the revision of army regulations and changing the method in which the Dept. of War transacted its business. He served as adjutant-general to various departments within the military and presented several reports to Congress on the organization of the U. S. Army.
