Larry Fagin was born in 1939. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.A. in English Literature, and did graduate work at the Gutenberg Institute in Mainz, Germany . From 1971-1976 he was co-director of the St. Mark's Poetry Project in New York City, and he edited a poetry magazine, Adventures in Poetry, during this time. He founded the Danspace project and directed Danspace from 1975-1980. He has been a faculty member at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado, since 1975 and directed the Naropa Poetics program from 1982-1984. He has taught poetry in the public schools for many years, and since 1972 has been poetry consultant in Brooklyn's District 22. He has published several books of poetry, and edited works by other poets. In 1993 he was Poet in Residence in Sedona, Arizona . He received a NEA Fellowship in Poetry and a Poets Foundation Grant.

He is the author or co-author of numerous collections of poetry, including Parade of the Caterpillars (1968), Brain Damage (1971), Two Serious Poems and One Other, with Bill Berkson (1971), Landscape, with George Schneeman (1972), The World of Leon, with Ron Padgett (1973), Rhymes of a Jerk (1974), Stabs (1979), Lime Rickeys, with Jack Collom (1994), and Dig & Delve, with Trevor Winkfield (1999). His poetry and prose have also appeared in magazines, such as Paris Review, Blue Suede Shoes, Poetry, Open Space, and Rolling Stone, as well as several anthologies of poetry.
Fagin published and edited Adventures in Poetry magazine (1968-1975) and Un Poco Loco, a monthly poetry newsletter (1978-1979). He was co-director of the Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church from 1971 to1976, and a founder and director of Danspace from 1975 to 1980. Since 1968, Fagin has taught creative writing to public school students and teachers. He was on the faculty at the Naropa Institute from 1977 to 1987, and chaired the Poetics Department from 1982 to 1984. He also taught at UCLA and New School University.
