Mark Lemon, playwright and co-founder with Henry Mayhew of Punch, in 1841. Lemon was a successful playwright and more than 60 of his plays were performed in London. He used the proceeds from his plays to finance the magazine which was not successful initially but later became a national institution. Lemon also wrote articles for other journals and ws founder-editor of The field. He wrote in other genres including novels, lyrics, and songs.
