Evangelical Protestant theologian, professor and author; born January 22, 1913, in New York City, earned undergraduate degree at Wheaton College in 1938 and doctorates from Northern Baptist Theological seminary in 1942 and Boston University in 1949; published The Uneasy Consceince of Modern Fundamentalism in 1947; served as editor of Chrstinaity Today magazine from 1956 to 1968; chairman of the 1966 World Congress on Evangelsim; helped found the Instititue for Advanced Christian Studies in 1967 and served on its board for many years; prominent Evangelical thinker and speaker; died December 7, 2003.
