Lawyer and politician.
Born near Fermoy, Ireland, Collins immigrated to America in 1848. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1871 and practiced law in Boston. He served in the Massachusetts State Legislature and was a member of Congress from 1883-1889. He was mayor of Boston from 1902 to 1905. Collins was very involved in the Irish Land League and Irish affairs in general.
