Biographical notes:

Originally established as a special conference of the Pennsylvania Ministerium in 1812, the Joint Synod petitioned the ministerium to form an independent body in 1817, and in 1818 the first general conference of the synod was held in Somerset, Ohio. The Joint Synod merged with the Buffalo Synod, Iowa Synod and Texas Synod in 1930 to form the American Lutheran Church. See C.V. Joint Synod of Ohio founded in 1812, merged with Buffalo Synod, Iowa Synod and Texas Synod in 1930 to form the American Lutheran Church. See C.V. Fifteen districts were formed through the Synod's existence, beginning with the Eastern District and the Western District in 1834.
