William Branch Giles (12 August 1762–4 December 1830) was a native of Amelia County, Virginia. He attended Hampden-Sydney College and Princeton University, and studied law with George Wythe. The 24th Governor of Virginia, Giles' political career included serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. Giles won the House seat in a special election in 1790, following the death of Theodorick Bland. In 1804, Giles was appointed as a Senator from Virginia after the resignation of Wilson Cary Nicholas. He himself resigned in 1815. Giles served as Governor of Virginia from March 4, 1827 to March 4, 1830.
