Biographical notes:
Charles Lacroix Pascal, of the firm of Sullenden and Pascal, lived in Philadelphia during the Civil War and developed a new design of army hat, which he attempted to have adopted by the Union army in 1861 and 1862. Pascal's two nephews, Amos and Charles Holahan, both served with the Pennsylvania Cavalry. About 1864 Pascal began to collect autographs of Civil War officers and government officials.
