He also answers a question about retarded children. The letter is undated but probably created in 1968 because his collection of stories in Adam and his works was published that same year.

Page proofs of "From here to eternity" contain unpublished text. Not intended for general circulation, the very small advance issue was recalled by the publisher. This copy may be the only one extant and was formerly the property of Christopher Morley. The proof contains the complete text of the novel and is significantly longer than the published version, which was cut heavily. With the proof are two explanatory letters from Matthew J. Bruccoli to John Cook Wyllie and Clifton Waller Barrett denying Jones's own assertion that the proofs are "a fraud." A letter to autograph collector Marshall E. Bean, 1965 January 4, quotes the last sentence in "The thin red line."

The collection contains a typed fair copy, signed, of the last section in "Nineteen Nineteen"; an autograph quotation from "The 42nd Parallel"; and an uncorrected galley proof of the first edition of "The 42nd Parallel." The bulk of the correspondence concerns Dos Passos' literary output including several letters to and from Paul Hoffman regarding the publishing of excerpts from "The Big Money" in Atlantic Monthly, a letter regarding the use of an incident in Frank Copley's biography of Frederick W. Taylor, possible watercolors for a section on Emiliano Zapata and material for a Lucas Fisher broadcast. The collection also includes Dos Passos' opinions on his own work, his father's opinions on the nature of death, a contrasting of communists and conservatives with a delineation of the task before conservatives and a reference to "The Theme Is Freedom," and a response to a class of school children on being good citizens.

The collection contains the mss. for the essays Of men and books, 1946 (on The bulwark by Theodore Dreiser) and Horace Gregory's poetry reread, and for short stories Jeff, Sylvester MucGullick, and One of many. The latter is Farrell's revised version of a ms. by his brother John Farrell. Letters, 1931-37, to Robert Carlton Brown discuss the problems of getting Brown's books, The readies and You gotta live, reviewed, the prospects of magazines accepting their short stories, the writing of the Studs Lonigan trilogy and Gas house McGinty, and literary censorship. He refers briefly to James Henle, Ezra Pound, Kay Boyle, Floyd Stern, H.L. Mencken, and Esquire and Common sense magazines. A letter to Robert McDonough reviews The old bunch by Meyer Levin. In other letters Farrell encourages a convalescent Marshall Bean, and declines Lola L. Kovener's offer to become his secretary. There is a letter to Brown from John Farrell regarding publicity and one from Floyd Stern mentioning Farrell.

A letter, 1962 August 13, to Marshall E. Bean, hopes that Bean will be able to approve two of his works including an essay on George Herbert. The collection also contains a signed Christmas card, 1951, designed by John Piper for Faber and Faber.
