Title: Records, 1917-1968.

The records of the Vice Provost and Dean of the University, Albert E. Meder, consist of more than 13 cubic feet of papers. They are housed in forty manuscript boxes. The collections spans the years between 1917 and 1968 and relate to the many positions held by Meder at Rutgers. The majority of these papers reflect his administrative duties at Rutgers rather than his professorial duties. The collection largely consists of reports and correspondence. The collection has been divided into three series, which have been arranged alphabetically. The Subject Files series contains documents from 1933 to 1968. The series documents the many academic areas Meder was involved in at Rutgers, with files representing many academic departments and issues. This series also contains the Meder's files on the Middle States Association Evaluation in the 1950s and 1960s. The Committee Files series documents the many committees Meder served on and received reports from during his time at Rutgers. These files span between 1917, predating Meder's arrival at Rutgers, to 1968, the year of his departure. In some cases, the committee names reflect the growing concerns of the times, such as the War Curricula files from the mid 1940s and the Television files from the 1960s. Other more longstanding committee concerns include academic standards and personnel policy. The Name Files series contains the voluminous correspondence to and from Meder to many different members of the Rutgers community between 1943 and 1968. This series also contains memoranda Meder sent out to deans and department heads along with a large number of letters to and from President Mason W. Gross before and during tenures as provost and president of Rutgers.

Albert E. Meder came to Rutgers as an instructor in mathematics in 1926. Between his arrival and his retirement in 1968, he held many positions at Rutgers, including Acting Dean of Douglass College, Secretary of the University, Dean of the University, Dean of Administration, and finally Vice Provost and Dean of the University. His records reflect his activities in these offices and show his relationships with other members of the Rutgers community, many of whom reported to him.

Cameron, Donald F. Records, 1925-1971.

Title: Records, 1925-1971.

The administrative records of the Office of University Librarian during the tenure of Donald F. Cameron consists of annual reports, meeting minutes, and correspondence of a professional and, less often, personal nature. The annual reports series provides a yearly progress report on library activity. Financial matters are contained in the series on budgets and financial records. One can view the day-to-day activities of the University Librarian through the general correspondence files, which are arranged alphabetically by sender or recipient of each letter. The bulk of the records are contained in the subject files. Within these files is documentation of Cameron's leadership of the Rutgers library system. Included are topics both internal to the operations of gthe library and external subjects that concerned Cameron, including professional organizations, associations and committees in which he participated. The records also contain extensive documentation on library construction on the New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden campuses of Rutgers. The final series documents Cameron involvement in the origins and development of the Rutgers University Press and Press Council.

Not only does it outline the regular operations of the office, but it also records the multitude of activites that Cameron partook in as the University Librarian. The Annual Reports of the Librarian of the University relate the activities of the library as a whole, its departments, and its units and were issued for accountability purposes. The Budget and Financial records include letters and memos on budgetary matters, budget sheets, salary rates, accountings of endowments, and financial statistics. The General Correspondence series mainly consists of letters, the majority of which document the mundane matters of Cameron's everyday work. Within the Subject Files is documentation of Cameron's leadership of the Rutgers Libraries. The Library Buildings series documents the planning and construction of many Rutgers University libraries, which were overseen by Cameron.

The folders entitled "Provost's Cabinet Meetings" contain minutes from Meeting No. 1 on July 8, 1953 through Meeting No. 155 on June 14, 1971. Meeting minutes are missing for Meetings No. 117 to 122 and Nos. 125 to 128. The minutes for Meeting No. 33 were not taken due to the absence of the Secretary. Two meetings (February 4 and March 4, 1957) are listed as No. 45. Meeting 53, scheduled for February 1958, was canceled because Mason W. Gross was ill and unable to attend. Although the records suggest the Cabinet met during the 1971-1972 year (there is correspondence regarding the meetings), no minutes from that year were included in the papers that make up this collection. These folders also contain correspondence regarding meeting schedules and agendas, and supplementary materials such as reports.

Earle W. Clifford, Jr. came to Rutgers University in 1963 to serve as Dean of Student Affairs. In this position he was responsible for overseeing activities outside the classroom and had various offices reporting to him. From 1970 to 1972 he was Vice President of Student Affairs. Clifford was at Rutgers during a time in which many social and educational changes were taking place. This collection contains many of his professional papers, which contain his thoughts and reactions to the events of those times.
