This collection contains primarily landscape and cityscape views primarily taken by professional photographers at international sites during the last quarter of the 19th century. Photographers represented include Félix Bonfils, Kinbē Kusakabe, LaRoche Photo, Achille Mauri, Scowen & Co., J. Pascal Sébah, Sebah & Joaillier, and Giorgio Sommer. Only those images from Hawaii appear to have been made by an amateur photographer. Locations represented are Ceylon, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, and the United States (Alaska and Hawaii). All images are albumen prints, mounted on boards; all images from Japan are also hand-tinted.

An assembled collection of modern photographs of ancient wall paintings, both in situ and detached. The collection's concentration is on works of the Greek, Etruscan, and Roman periods, 6th cent. BC-6th cent. AD. Photographic coverage is most complete for Greece and Italy, with notable strength in documentation of Etruscan tomb paintings (in Tarquinia and Chiusi in particular) and of mural paintings in Pompeii. The collection also includes photographs of ancient mural paintings from other countries, including Germany, Hungary, Libya, Syria, and Turkey. The collection includes photographs from different sources, chiefly commercial vendors and photographers, as well as the archives of scholars and research institutions. Among the commercial vendors and photographers are Alinari (including the Anderson and Brogi archives), Bulloz, Chauffourier, Bildarchiv Foto Marburg, Rheinisches Bildarchiv Köln, Photographie Giraudon, Hirmer Verlag, Alison Frantz, John Ross, Guntram Koch, Emile Serafis, Giorgio Sommer, and Gabinetto fotografico nazionale (Rome), including the Antonio Giuliano collection. Institutional archives from which the collection holds images are the Fototeca unione at the American Academy in Rome and the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut (DAI), Rome. Scholarly sources include the repository's Giovanni Becatti archives.

The album contains 31 photographs of Algeria, 8 of Egypt and 9 of Italy. Some of the Algerian views are titled "Algérie pittoresque" and some have captions identifying the subject of the photograph. Most have "C. Portier" printed in the lower right hand corner. The views are mostly of Algiers, including the harbor, the principal mosques, and characteristic streets of the Casbah. There are also a few portraits entitled "Types Algeriennes".

This is an open, growing collection of views of cities, sites, and monuments from around the world. Many views are by early photographers such as Robert Macpherson, James Anderson, Carlo Naya, and Giorgio Sommer, and a number of sites are represented by photographers from various time periods, showing the changes in the site over time. The collection contains examples of most types of nineteenth and early twentieth century photographic media including albumen, salt, carbon, collotype, cyanotype, and gelatin silver prints, as well as some handcolored prints.

Joachim Bonnemaison collection of panorama photographs.

The collection, compiled by the French artist and collector Joachim Bonnemaison, consists of over 630 photographic and printed panoramic images of cities and sites mainly in Europe, but also in Africa, Asia, North America and South America. The panoramas are arranged alphabetically by continent, then country, and then by photographer. Over half of the photographs are of locales and scenes in France. Also included is a small group of photographs relating to the painted panorama. The panoramas in the collection are made in the most popular nineteenth-and early twentieth-century photographic media, as well as in a number of rare and early techniques. Photographic processes present in the collection include salted paper, albumen, collodion, carbon, and gelatin silver prints, as well as cyanotypes. There are also three photographic paper negatives in the collection, two of which were made by Gustave de Beaucorp in 1859, and the third by Léon Méhédin, circa 1862. The collection also contains a small number of contemporary anamorphosis photographs made by its compiler, Joachim Bonnemaison, who experimented with combining reconstructions of 19th century panoramic cameras and digital processing.
