Lyon, M. Fred. Lyon, M. Fred, Collection, 1870-1991.
Title:
Lyon, M. Fred, Collection, 1870-1991.
A collection of Missouri-Kansas-Texas (M-K-T or KATY) Railroad operating papers, equipment records, promotional materials, photographs and slides, publications, and newspaper clippings concerning the company. The collection also contains similar but less extensive materials of other American and foreign railroads, American railroad industry publications, and railroad enthusiast periodicals. The collection reflects the compiler's interest in American railroads in general with a focus on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad; consequently the two predominant series of the collection are the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad and American Railroads. The latter series contains more limited amounts of material on railroads throughout the United States. A small series, Foreign Railroads, contains limited materials on Canadian and European lines.

Stevens, Mr. (Robert Smith), 1824-1893. Papers, 1856-1875.
Title:
Papers, 1856-1875.
This collection contains more than 1,800 documents. Most are of a business nature although there is some of a personal nature. Some of the correspondence relates to Stevens peripherally and there are several newspaper articles relating to him and his work. Most of the collection pertains to his work and association with Kansas: as an attorney and land agent in Lecompton and as general manager of the M-K-T Railroad. The earlier material included in this collection provides valuable insights into his personal, political, and professional life in Kansas immediately prior to the Civil War. There is also information on his work at the Sac & Fox Indian Agency, Quantrill's Raid on Lawrence, Kan., and the Atlantic & Pacific and Missouri Pacific railroads. Since the collection ends in 1875, there is no information about his term as a Congressman, nor earlier and later careers. Correspondents include George Denison and Levi Parsons.
