Collection documents Bartos' career through speeches and presentations, publications, correspondence, research files, slides, photographs and videotapes. Major topics include marketing to under-represented groups, the role of women in advertising, and Bartos' efforts to promote marketing towards women and "over forty-nine" adults. The Speeches and Presentations Series includes reading copies or scripts from speeches and presentations given by Bartos during her career. Dominant themes include the role of women in advertising, marketing to underrepresented groups such as women and people in Latin America and India, and the psychological aspects of advertising. In addition, the series includes the slides and graphics Bartos used in her speeches, as well as press clippings from her various speaking engagements. The Correspondence Series includes business correspondence, mailings and solicitations from Bartos' career in marketing research, as well as correspondence with JWT executives, including Don Johnston and Thomas Sutton. The series also contains correspondence between Bartos and the various publishers of her written works. The Publications Series includes copies of the articles written by Bartos for scholarly and trade publications such as The Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Advertising Research, Marketing Review, and Marketing and Research Today, either from the original periodical or in pre-print form. The Research Series includes an extensive collection of newspaper and periodical clippings and other resources used by Bartos as supporting materials for her speaking engagements, articles, and books. The Audiovisual Materials Series includes audio and visual recordings of promotional works for marketing campaigns, including The Moving Target. In addition, this series also includes tapes of speeches and interviews given by Bartos, some of which relate to the published article "The Founding Fathers of Advertising Research."

The J. Walter Thompson Company (JWT), founded in 1864, is one of the oldest and largest enduring advertising agencies in the United States. The J. Walter Thompson Company Biographical Information collection includes articles, clippings, press releases, internal memoranda and other printed materials that pertain to the lives and careers of over 3,000 managers, executives and staff members of JWT. Extensive files exist for some notable JWT executives, including Don Johnston, Helen and Stanley Resor, Norman Strouse, James Walter Thompson, and James Webb Young.

Collection (3000 items, dated 1955-1979) contains miscellaneous correspondence, memos, reports, speeches, and printed items relating to Stridsberg's career at JWT. Substantive material on the agency's international offices and clients. Contains publications on international marketing of tobacco as well as speeches by Rena Bartos and other officers of the company. Acquired as part of the John W. Hartman Center for Sales, Advertising, and Marketing History. (94-111). Addition (23 items, dated 1956-1976 and n.d.) comprises printed material (21 items, 1956-1960) and two 16mm film reels containing TV commercials. Printed material includes issues of a serial, "Motivations" (1956-1957), and other bulletins published by Ernest Dichter's Institute for Motivational Research. There is a "Catalogue of Television Commercials Monitored Off-the-Air for Competitive Research" by U.S. Tele-Service Corporation (1960). Commercials are copies of Coca-Cola campaigns by McCann-Erickson agency (n.d.) and a 1976 reel from Dancer Fitzgerald Sample. (00-444).

Founded in 1864, the J. Walter Thompson Company (JWT) is the largest enduring advertising agency in the United States. The Information Center of the New York Office began a collection of writings and speeches by former JWT executives. Later, scrapbooks and binders of speeches by Stanley Resor and Arno Johnson and Norman Strouse were added, and the Information Center expanded its activities to routinely collect texts of speeches given by current JWT staff. After the transfer of the JWT Archives to Duke University, additions continued to be received and interfiled. The J. Walter Thompson Company Writings and Speeches collection spans 1912 through 2000 and includes primarily printed texts of speeches given by advertising executives employed at the J. Walter Thompson Company. Also included to a lesser extent are clippings or reprints of articles, reports, and white papers, along with some books written in whole or in part by JWT staff. Topics include general trends in advertising and marketing, specific themes related to JWT's policies and philosophies, year-end reports, specific marketing strategies.
