There are also some manuscript notes from his early years in Italy and Germany. Series I has been divided into six parts: Artists, Subjects, Book Manuscripts, Proofs, Notes, and Printed Materials. Some of the major files are Bernini, Bramante, Carracci, Michelangelo, and Raphael (Artists); Baroque Painting, Patronage, Rome, St. Peter's, Slade Lectures on the history of art (Subjects); ART AND ARCHITECTURE IN ITALY, BORN UNDER SATURN, and MATTHEWS LECTURES: GOTHIC VS. CLASSIC (Book Manuscripts). The Leo Steinberg Research Papers consist of research notes, correspondence relating to his lectures and essays, papers written by his students, several versions of some of his essays, an abandoned dissertation project, and many of his notebooks from courses he took at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. The archive reflects Steinberg's career as an art critic, lecturer and teacher from ca. 1945-ca.1996. The research notes and course notebooks give a clear picture of Steinberg's fields of interest, as well as his association with many distinguished art historians. Included are Steinberg's unpublished research on Borromini, his work on Rodin and Titian in the form of notes, photographs, lectures in typescript with notes; a few essays by others; his dissertation on Borromini, and professional correspondence such as with Rudolf Wittkower about Borromini. Correspondence about Steinberg's lecture series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and elsewhere includes letters from scholars such as Gerson Cohen, Rene d'Harnoncourt, John Canaday, Margaret Scolari Barr, André Chastel, Julius Held, H.S. Janson, Irving Lavin, Annette Michelson and Phil Leider. Also, there is correspondence with art critic Hilton Kramer about Steinberg's column in the magazine Arts; articles and letters about his essay on Jasper Johns and lecture "Sexuality of Christ in Renaissance Art and in Modern Oblivion," and reviews and versions of several essays from Steinberg's book Other criteria. The Emergency Committee in Aid of Displaced Foreign Scholars was formed in New York City in 1933 by American academicians for the purpose of employing refugee German scholars in American institutions. Many of these refugee scholars were Jews displaced by the National Socialist government. The collection consists chiefly of grant files on refugee scholars who applied for aid from the Committee. The records also include correspondence with other refugee and philanthropic organizations and with the educational institutions which accepted refugee scholars.

The collection consists of correspondence and papers documenting CRIA's activities and collaboration with other commitees for the rescue of Florentine monuments, works of art, books and manuscripts damaged by the 1966 flood. Furthermore, a rich photographic documentation testifies not only to the damage suffered by Florentine's cultural heritage but also to an intense exchange amongst scholars of finer details on conducting restoration work. Series I., Palazzo Pitti office, and Series II., Villa I Tatti, are each divided into 2 subseries. The collection documents Keller's academic and scholarly career and provides a view of art history scholarship and pedagogy during a formative period in the discipline. Extensive, carefully composed and detailed course and lecture notes provide a precise record of Keller's teaching methods and illustrate his generalist approach. Topics cover painting, sculpture, architecture, and urbanism from the Early Christian and Byzantine periods through Impressionism. His scholarship and teaching are further documented in research notes and manuscripts, as well as in correspondence with other art historians. The body of letters from Richard Krautheimer is particularly significant (50 items, 1943-1989); other correspondents include: Christoph Liutpold Frommel (11 letters), Hans Sedlmayr, Ludwig H. Title: Heim Gallery records, 1965-1991.

The Heim Gallery records document the business of the gallery, its cultivation of clients in Europe and the United States, and the production of its scholarly exhibitions especially for the period between 1966 and 1988. The correspondence with museums, individual clients and suppliers and experts comprise the greater part of the collection. Photographs of art works, financial papers, research and publicity files, and Andrew Ciechanowiecki's personal business files make up the rest of the archive. The correspondence series contains letters received and the gallery's copies of letters sent. Letters reflect the gallery's offers to museums and individual collectors, curators' requests for works for their collections or for assistance in finding works needed for exhibitions. The letters also document business strategies and Ciechanowiecki's collaborations with museums and his solid scholarly contributions to exhibitions. The letters also reveal his close personal association with Poland and its artistic patrimony. A separate group of correspondence concerns the sale of the Heim Gallery. There are no personal papers in the archive. Photographs of art works are organized by medium: paintings, drawings, sculpture, furniture and decorative arts, and represent works sold, with additional images of items before restoration, and art works documented for research or commercial reasons. Research notes, printed brochures, and photographs illustrate the production of exhibitions at the Heim Gallery. Research files contain notes, numerous study photographs, and some printed matter, organized by artist, school or medium. Many research files represent works offered to the gallery but rejected. Financial records include stockbooks, ledgers and cash books, as well as invoices, paid bills, and documents related to shipping and taxes. Financial records do not appear to be complete. Gallery publicity is documented through clippings, guest books, and photographs that show members of royalty attending exhibits at the gallery.
