Born in Victoria, British Columbia in 1890 the daughter of Seymour and Harriet Jackson Going, Chase Going Woodhouse studied at McGill University, the University of Berlin and the University of Chicago. She was employed by Smith College, U.S. Department of Agriculture, the University of North Carolina, Connecticut College before her election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1945. For much of the remainder of her career she served as the Director's of the Auerbach Women's Service Bureau (1945-1981). Chase Going Woodhouse died in 1984 after a lifetime of dedicated public service.

It contains the records of the Woman's Franchise League of Indiana (1910-1920); the League of Women Voters of Indiana (1920-1978); the National League of Women Voters (1920-1976); and various local Indiana affiliates (1932-1970s). Materials at the state level include minutes; correspondence; finance reports; membership lists; newsletters; and conference, publicity, and voter registration materials. The collection also includes some records of the Family Service Association of Indianapolis. General topics include legislation, crime, education, child and public welfare, the status of women, and various other aspects of Indiana politics and government. There are materials pertaining to home rule, reappointment, the merit system, and child labor. Local Indiana (township, city, and county) and national league records include organizational and business materials, and issues and projects similar to those dealt with at the state level.

DeVoe.

Zelma Corning Brandt (1891-1990) was a social crusader active throughout the twentieth century. Her chief interests included the independence and development of colonial countries, American Indian affairs, nuclear disarmament, women’s issues, and geriatric concerns. The collection consists of correspondence, travel notes, diaries and writings, and publications and reports, especially from 1960-1989. Brandt’s longevity and attention to detail provide a complete view of various world and domestic issues and events through this period. Zelma Brandt attended Bryn Mawr College from 1909 to 1911.
