Boston merchant and capitalist who was chief proprietor and developer of a controversial patent located between the Muscongus and Penobscot Rivers in Maine.
When opponents to Waldo's settlement projects questioned the validity of his title, he traveled to England in 1738 to defend his claim and engineer the ouster of Gov. Belcher, who Waldo blamed for his troubles.

The papers of Albigence Waldo include correspondence, estate papers, and accounts and account books. The papers of Lucy Cargill Waldo include correspondence, poetry, and extracts from newspapers. The papers of Elisha Hurlbut Waldo contain letters to his father while he was apprenticed to Isaiah Thomas. There is also one letter from Thomas to Albigence Waldo concerning Elisha's apprenticeship. The papers of Daniel Waldo include business correspondence, while the papers of Daniel Waldo, Jr. include business, family, and political correspondence. The collection also includes papers of Waldo Lincoln (1849-1933), a genealogist. His papers contain correspondence, genealogical notes, and a typescript of the Waldo Family genealogy. The papers of Charles Samuel Waldo (1871- ), also a genealogist, contain notebooks with genealogical notes concerning the Waldo Family. There are also papers of other Waldo Family members, including a deed of Cornelius Waldo (1684-1753), 1740; a letter from Sarah Waldo, 1850; and an undated account book by an unknown author, titled "Book Debts Collected by Major McClellan."

Included are: a copy of the Privy Council's verdict in the dispute between Samuel Waldo and David Dunbar (ca. 1735), the 85th Instruction of George II to Benning Wentworth (1740); letter to the editor of The New Hampshire Gazette responding to "the political piece in your Gazette of 5th Current upon the subject of the aggrieved and injured settlers of the towns granted by your Governor to the west of the Connecticut river;" and six documents accumulated by John Adams after the Massachusetts General Court appointed him to investigate the disputes in March 1774.

The bulk of the papers relate to Pepperrell's command at Louisbourg, including military orders and reports, regimental lists, returns, correspondence regarding strategies, supplies, and provisions, commission and discharge requests, accounts, receipts, and invoices. The collection also includes Pepperrell's business correspondence as a merchant, in particular with his son-in-law, Boston merchant Nathaniel Sparhawk and his partner Benjamin Colman, and regarding lands in Maine; family correspondence including with his father William; and a Pepperrell family genealogy.
