Price, David Eugene. David Price papers, 1960-2004 and undated.
Title:
David Price papers, 1960-2004 and undated.
Collection documents Price's scholarly and political career, including his days as a graduate student in the 1960s, his tenure as a political science professor and Democratic Party staff member, and, finally, his years as a Democratic congressman from North Carolina's Fourth District from 1987 through 1998. Records from Price's political headquarters record the routine activities of Price and his office staff, and the larger system of government in which he participated. The files contain documents, handwritten and computer-generated; printed materials such as legislative bills and campaign publicity; and a variety of audiovisual materials, including photographs, some slides, many videos, and audio recordings. The collection is especially rich for researchers interested in the American political party system, the work and life of legislators, North Carolina history and government, the North Carolina Democratic and Republican Parties, the U.S. Congress, its committee structure, the Hunt Commission, and especially the larger legislative process. Other topics include political campaigns, notably Price's own campaigns and Albert Gore's senatorial campaign of 1970-1971. Accession (2010-0219) (11,250 items; 15 lin. ft.; dated 1987-2004) includes campaign files dating from 1996-2004.

Title:
Local No. 61 records, 1959-1964.
Correspondence, legal briefs, clippings, and other papers relating to accusations by the L. S. Donaldson Company and the Minneapolis House Furnishing Company that the union violated labor laws by picketing their stores. The union had picketed because the two companies bought and sold furniture not made in Minnesota. The companies' accusations were upheld by the National Labor Relations Board in a ruling that stopped picketing by the union, but allowed the union to distribute leaflets and other advertising to support its position. But in 1964 this ruling was overthrown by the U.S. Court of Appeals.

Title:
Oliver F. Atkins photograph collection 1943-1975
The Atkins collection consists of approximately 60,000 images that extensively document American political and cultural history from the 1940s through the 1970s. Most of the images that document American political life date from the early 1960s through the mid-1970s when Atkins worked as a photographer for the Saturday Evening Post and then later as the personal photographer to President Richard M. Nixon. The bulk of the American cultural documentation is from Atkins' work in the 1950s and early 1960s on specific stories for the Saturday Evening Post, and these stories cover other areas of the United States, particularly the Southeast up through the Northeast coast. There are also a number of international sets of images from Korea, Africa, and India. The collection consists largely of 8x10" and l3x10" color and black and white prints and 35mm and 4x5" black and white negatives. There are also a number of slides, contact sheets, and oversize mat prints. The collection also includes some correspondence and other documentation on Atkins' work and travel abroad.
