James H. Archer was born 20 June 1882 at Plattsmouth, Neb. He came to Montana in 1945, settling first in Glagow then moving to Great Falls in 1952. A professional boxer, trainer, fight and wrestling promoter, he later became a barber. At one time, he managed a semi-pro baseball team in Great Falls. Archer served as Montana State Athletic Commissioner from 1949 to 1959. A Democrat, he had unsuccessfully sought public office. Archer died on 11 Dec. 1973 in Great Falls.
