The collection contains the manuscripts of two poems "Though stone be broken," and "The shining rocks (dedicated to Arthur Davison Ficke)" and extracts from the Parnassus letters as collected by Edna Baldwin Kent. Letters of George Cram Cook, Edna Kenton, and Glaspell describe the Cooks' pilgrimage to Greece; the Provincetown Players including finances, current productions, and management by Mary Eleanor Fitzgerald; and the feelings of Glaspell after Cook's death. Eugene O'Neill and Floyd Dell are mentioned as are the plays "Mr. Faust," "The Ape, " and "The Verge." Glaspell requests and receives a copy of "Thus spake Zarathustra" in English. The collection also contains an interview with Glaspell by Alice Rohe, a review of "Chains of dew," a 1915 notebook of Glaspell containing character outlines, and three untitled poems by Cook.

Collection contains several untitled poems by O'Neill, George Cram Cook's play, "Change your style," "Suppressed desires," by Cook and Susan Glaspell, notes re the magazine, "Vanity fair," and "Little hope" a play by Agnes O'Neill with notes by Eugene O'Neill. The rest of the collection consists of letters by O'Neill and Agnes O'Neill. Topics discussed include many of O'Neill's plays, the death of George Cram Cook, the Provincetown Players dispute, the estrangement and divorce of O'Neill and his second wife, Agnes, marionette productions of "Marco Millions," "The hairy ape," and "The Emperor Jones," financial matters, the renovation and possible sale of the O'Neill's Bermuda estate, Spithead, the movie version of O'Neill's play, "The long voyage home," and O'Neill's advice to his son, Shane, on career matters. Correspondents include Susan Glaspell, Arnold Daly, Edward Goodman, Richard Madden, Jero Magon, and Oona O'Neill Chaplin.

Century Company records

Title: Century Company records

The Century Company published the Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, which was widely regarded as the best general periodical of its time, performing a role as cultural arbiter during the 1880s and 1890s. It was founded in New York City in 1881 and also published the children's magazine St. Nicholas, dictionaries, and books. The Century Company records date from 1870 to the 1930s and chiefly contain correspondence with contributors, readers, public figures, and literary agents. A number of manuscripts and proofs in the collection are extensively edited and taken with annotations on letters provide a detailed record of the outlook, standards, and functions of the company.

Correspondents include George Cram Cook, Edna Kenton, Susan Glaspell and Eugene O'Neill. Correspondence discusses travel arrangements for various theatrical meetings. Also discusses critical revisions of various scripts considered for production and some produced by the Players. Much of the correspondence discusses literary and theatrical criticism in general, specifically within New York and Chicago social circles. The collection includes typewritten signed document by members of the Provincetown Players concerning the use of the name Provincetown Playhouse and a draft agreement for the formation of the Experimental Theatre. Drafts of the articles of incorporation, summaries of meetings, some clippings, programs, and press releases are also present.

Yaddo is an artists' community located in Saratoga Springs, New York. The Yaddo Records contain the administrative records of The Corporation of Yaddo since its establishment in 1900, as well as the institutional records of Yaddo from 1926, the year Yaddo began accepting guests. Notable guests have included Newton Arvin, John Cheever, Aaron Copland, Malcom Cowley, Leonard Bernstein, Truman Capote, Carson McCullers, Langston Hughes, Sylvia Plath, Katherine Anne Porter, and Clyfford Still. The collection also contains proofs and drafts of works on James including "Henry James at Home," by H. Montgomery Hyde; "Lady Barberina and other tales" edited by Herbert Ruhm; "The master" by Ford Madox Ford and "To Henry James," by Max Beerbohm and Edmund Gosse. Subjects discussed at some length include his writing and the art of writing; publication; problems with copyright and book pirating; photographic illustrations; the literary or artistic work of his correspondents and other contemporaries; travels in France and Italy; dislike of the United States and opinions on various European countries; life in London and the country; the theater, including productions of his work; social engagements; health; friends and family. Topics of interest include his relationship with Violet Hunt, the mistress of Ford Madox Ford; his friendship with sculptor Hendrick C. Anderson; the precarious mental health of his sister Alice; opinion of Daudet, and his admiration and criticism of the works of Mrs. Humphrey Ward and the outbreak of World War I. In addition there are very brief mentions of many of the noted literary figures of the day and occasional references to national and world events such as the assassination of Umberto I, the loss of the Titanic, Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee, and a 1911 railway strike. The collection also contains some correspondence of James scholars and collectors, 1930-1969, and some correspondence of James family members, particulalry Henry James, Sr., who comments in 1863 that Thucydides records an instance where an enemy's slaves were liberated and suggests Horace Greeley be told, and expounds on his theories of love, marriage, divorce and womanhood. There are also letters of William James, Sr. and William James, Jr., Henry's brother and nephew. The collection also contains numerous photographs and portraits of James, and Lamb House, Rye, England; cartoons of James by Max Beerbohm; and photographs of people and places associated with him.

Nineteen letters to Edmund R. Brown regard the production and the publication of "Geography and plays." Two letters to William Buehler Seabrook regard his work "The magic island" as well as Stein's and Toklas's life in their summer home in Biligmin par Belley, France. Nine letters to Pierre de Massot regard his and her work, visits, and his preface to "Dix portraits." The bulk of the letters of this collection are directed to Sir Francis Rose regarding their friendship, visits, health, pet dogs "Basket" and "Curley," and especially his work. Stein appreciates his paintings but also offers sarcastic criticism. In addition she gives advice, support, and help with exhibits. There are also letters to book-sellers, letters regarding finances, a letter to Virgil Thomson thanking him for a book, and several letters by Alice B. Toklas on routine matters and one concerning Stein's rift with Henri Matisse. The collection also contains manuscripts of "Some memories of Henri Matisse," and a commentary on "Geography and plays" by Toklas, and "The work of Gertrude Stein," by Sherwood Anderson; two contracts, and several photographs including Carl Van Vechten's photograph of Stein in front of the Rotunda at the University of Virginia, and a photograph of the 1906 Picasso portrait of Stein.
