Title:
Letter : Arlington Street [London, Eng.], to Sir William Hamilton, 1776 Feb. 18.
Letter to Sir William Hamilton and his wife, Catherine, in Naples in which Walpole expresses his views on a number of sites that the Hamiltons saw in Switzerland, Naples, and Paris and his preference for art rather than the "anatomy of nature." He recounts some recent experiences with art sales including the sale of a preported Van Dyck 'Madonna and Child' as well as 'Mariette's glorious sale' and complains of some recent treatment of paintings belonging to the Prince of Monaco at the Palais-Royal. He urges Lady Hamilton "to beg, buy, or steal all the plumes" as they are all the fashion.
