[The Dilettanti Society] [graphic] / Sir Joshua Reynolds pinxt. ; Say sculp. [1812]

A group portrait of seven members of the Dilettanti Society seated or standing around a table. A Grecian vase is on display in the center of the table; at the edge of the table is an open book with an engraving of a vase. Two wine bottles stand on the table and several of the men hold wine glasses in their hands. The seven men are identified in print under image as: Sir W.W. Wynn; Sir J. Taylor; Mr. Payne-Galway; Sir William Hamilton; Mr. Richard Thompson; Mr. Stanhope; Mr. Smith of Heath.

Sir William Hamilton was a British diplomat, ambassador to Naples (1764-1800), and an archaeologist. His wife, Emma, was the mistress of Admiral Horatio Nelson.
