Also prints sent to Charles Colcock Jones; the publishing schedule of the "American historical record . . ."; Vassar College; inability to subscribe to a book by William Leete Stone; a church convention; the promotion of William? The album title page contains an engraving by E. Gallaudet from a painting by J.G. Chapman, published by J.C. Riker, New York. The collection contains manuscripts of the poems "The backwoodsman," and "Where are women angels?"; transcripts of two poems by John Quincy Adams and one of an untitled poem to Adams by Paulding; and a fragment of "The rights of war and peace." Much of the correspondence discusses Department of Navy business. Letters also lobby support for the commissioning of American artists to execute paintings for the Capitol particularly John G. Chapman; discuss the publishing of poetry, plays, and stories by himself as well as David Porter's pamphlet justifying his conduct at Fajardo; and accept election as honorary member of the Washington Literary Society at the University of Virginia. The collection also contains a document appointing Paulding as Navy Agent in 1824 signed by James Monroe, and four engravings of Paulding.
