Family members include John Gadsby Chapman, an American painter well known in the mid-19th century for his historical scenes and portraits, including The baptism of Pocahontas, which hangs in the U.S. Capitol. Also, his son Conrad Wise ("Cooney") Chapman, painter and photographer, who served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.
