Sarah Butler Wister (1835-1906), daughter of Pierce Butler and Fanny Kemble, married Dr. Owen Jones Wister of Grumblethorpe in 1859. According to her granddaughter, Fanny Kemble Wister Stokes, "Sarah was fine looking, nearly beautiful... She is remembered as regal when she received at the Philadelphia assemblies... She was the great lady of her neighborhood.

She also journal, as her mother did, and her Civil War diary was published by her daughter in The Philadelphia Magazine of History, in 1978. Among the papers are: receipted bills and accounts 1810, 1847-1891, for the management of Philadelphia real estate; Butler's Island, Georgia, receipted bills and accounts, 1846-1860, 1881-1884, for crops, goods shipped from Philadelphia, and payroll; Gabriella M. Butler receipted bills, 1846-1861; John Butler estate letterbook, 1859-1868, journal and ledger, 1862-1870.

The Century Company published the Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine, which was widely regarded as the best general periodical of its time, performing a role as cultural arbiter during the 1880s and 1890s. It was founded in New York City in 1881 and also published the children's magazine St. Nicholas, dictionaries, and books. The Century Company records date from 1870 to the 1930s and chiefly contain correspondence with contributors, readers, public figures, and literary agents.
