Thomas Palmer, surveyor, was of Balston Spa, New York.
This collection was donated by Doctor thomas W. Palmer of Montevallo, Alabama, August 20, 1907.
Thomas Palmer, a physician who lived most of his life in Plymouth, left a manuscript entitled The Admirable Secrets of Physicke & Chirurgery, dated 1690. Palmer states on the title page that his work was "transcribed from a manuscript by Dr. Fuller" (apparently now lost).
McIver Woody was a medical director for Esso Standard Oil, c.1918. See also: Emma McIver Woody Scholarship.

Papers primarily from the 1950's concerning weaving, especially hand weaving. Includes company brochures, catalogs, order forms and newsletters from Hand-Skill Looms, Inc. This company was founded by Elphege Nadeau, a home weaver from Woonsocket, R.I. who invented a new hand loom in the 1950's. Also contains brochures, 1969-1975, from Lily Mills Co., Shelby, N.C., sellers of hand weaving looms, equipment and yarn; product information sheets and newsletters called Shuttle-Craft Styles which include a few yarn and cloth samples (swatches); and a photograph, 1954, taken at the Nadeau Hand Weaving Center, Boston, showing Palmer and Mrs. Larry (Gladys) Smith at a loom.

Collection includes letters, journals, titles to land in Michigan, scrapbooks, miscellanea of Michigan history. Born in St. Clair, Mich., Dec. 27, 1856 son of Bela W. Jenks who came from Crown Point, N.Y. He grade from St. Clair High School in 1873. In 1878 grad. from U. of M. Received honorary degree of M.A. from U. of M. in 1915. In 1879 entered law office of Brown & Farrand in Port Huron and admitted to the Bar. In 1880 formed a partnership with Jeremiah W. Jenks, a cousin. In 1882 formed partnership with B.G. Farrand later with Lincoln Avery and Patrick Phillips. In 1912 wrote a history of St. Clair county. Was president of the Mich. Hist. Comm., Mich, Hist. Soc., St. Clair Pioneer Society, Sons of the Am. Rev., vice pres. Mich. Arts Assoc. In 1895 obtained an amendment to the Port Huron City Charter to set up a public library and obtained a donation from the Carnegie fund for the building. He was an official in a number of banking, trust and loan cots and wrote a history of banking in the state. His wife, Margaret, died in 1924. He left a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Lassen, Died Dec. 1, 1936. (from B.H.C. Biog. File and Michigan History, v.21, p. 200-202).

The John W. Taylor Papers, 1798-1852 consist primarily of correspondence related to Taylor's service as the United Stated Congressman from Saratoga County, New York from 1813-1833 during which time he was elected twice as Speaker of the House. The letters pertain to national, state and county politics, abolition and slavery, elections, banking, the tariff, internal improvements, land policy, national figures, New York politicians, the post office department, legislation and patronage as well as personal matters. Some of Taylor's frequent correspondents included Jesse Buel, DeWitt Clinton, Esek Cowen, Samuel Cook, Alfred Conkling, John Cramer, Stephen Decatur, John A. Dix, Isaac M. Ely, Jonathan Fisk, James Geddes, Jabez D. Hammond, Salma Hale, Richard M. Livingston, Henry C. Martindale, John McLean, J.B. Mower, Charles Miner, Hezekiah Niles, Eliphalet Nott, Lemuel C. Paine, George Palmer, Thomas Palmer, John Russell, Ebenezer Sage, John Savage, Ambrose Spencer, James Tallmadge, John L. Viele, Daniel D. Tompkins, Jane Taylor (his wife), Martin Van Buren and William Woodbridge. There is also a group of 83 letters from Taylor to his wife, 1813-1833. The Taylor Papers include speeches mostly in manuscript form. One speech delivered in Ballston Spa on October 8, 1831 was printed as a pamphlet supplement to the Schenectady and Saratoga Standard. An undated broadside entitled The People's Nomination describes a meeting held at Ballston Spa at which Taylor was nominated for Congress. There are certificates, including stock certificates in the Mohawk Bridge and Ballston Turnpike Company; deeds, mortgages, and other land papers, including two deeds in the name of his father-in-law, James Hodge; petitions; memoranda; several diplomas from Union College; circulars; receipts; records of the findings of an inquest held in 1812; minutes and lists. Personal correspondence includes the draft of a letter to and the reply from Thomas Jefferson. There are also large numbers of invitations and visiting cards.

Financial records, legal documents, printed material, and a photograph comprise the Parmer-Palmer family papers. Four receipts document Robert A. Parmer's membership in the Oak Shade Grange. The legal documents include the commission of Thomas Palmer for service as Chambers County Precinct Two Justice of the Peace (1859), a Harris County deed from John D. Smith to Richard L. Redmond, and the July 29, 1862 honorable discharge from the Army of the Confederate States issued to Isom Palmer. The Parmer printed material consists of Thomas Parmer's written calling card identifying Parmer as a veteran. The Papers also include a tintype of Isom Palmer.
