This collection is arranged into one series of correspondence, mostly between Gould and her trustee Samuel Vaughn; most of the letters date from the period when she was living in Spain. The letters deal primarily with Goulds finances and with personal matters, and include much detail on expatriot life in Spain, especially during World War II.

Alice Bache Gould Papers, 1937-1946

Title: Alice Bache Gould Papers 1937-1946

Alice Bache Gould, scion of a distinguished New England family, Bryn Mawr graduate, and university teacher in the field of mathematics, became a pioneer scholar of the history of early exploration in the Caribbean, and particularly of Chistopher Columbus's voyages. She pursued this work in many libraries and archives, and spent much of the last forty years of her life in Spain. The collection consists of correspondence between Alice Bache Gould and Samuel Vaughn, her trustee in Boston. The letters, mostly written from Spain during the late 1930s and early 1940s, allude to Gould's financial circumstances, her travels and her social and scholarly pursuits.

The Philip S. Hench Walter Reed Yellow Fever Collection documents the work of the U.S. Army Yellow Fever Commission, the legacy of the commission’s discoveries, the lives of individuals who were connected to the commission, and twentieth century campaigns to shape public memory of the commission. Items in the collection date from 1800 to 1998, with the bulk of the items dating from 1864 to 1974. A wide range of formats are represented in the collection including, but not limited to the following: articles, artifacts, audiocassettes, bills (legislative records), biographies, charts (graphic documents), correspondence, diaries, editorials, interviews, journals (periodicals), magazines, maps, medical records, military records, negatives (photographic), notes, photographs, reports, reprints, scrapbooks, and speeches. Unique materials in the collection are supplemented with copies of original documents and photographs housed in other institutions (e.g the U.S. National Archives). Most of the materials in the collection were collected or created by Nobel laureate Philip Showalter Hench while researching the history of the U.S. Army Yellow Fever Commission.

Photographs collected by the mathematician, historian, teacher, and author Alice Bache Gould. Most of the photographs, loose and in volumes, are portraits of Gould and her friends and family, including her parents, Benjamin Apthorp Gould (1824-1896) and Mary Apthorp Quincy Gould, and other members of the related Gould, Howe, and Quincy families, as well as classmates from Bryn Mawr College, among others. There are also photographs from Gould's travels to Puerto Rico, among other places, as well as views of the Gould family homes in Boston, Mass. and Cordoba, Argentina and some reproductions of portrait paintings of various relatives. Photographers include Allen & Rowell, Josiah Johnson Hawes, John Higue Garo, and John Adams Whipple, all of Boston, Mass., and George Kendall Warren of Cambridgeport, Mass. Includes cabinet cards, cartes de visite, tintypes, and stereographs.
