The last is Anza's report, 5 p., supporting Garcés suggestion, commenting on future difficulties with the Apache Indians, suggesting removal of the Apache, and civilizing other Indian groups.

Elstob, Winston. Anza Expedition Bicentennial Committee collection [archives/manuscript], 1975-1976

Title: Anza Expedition Bicentennial Committee collection [archives/manuscript], 1975-1976

During Monterey's 1970 bicentennial celebrations, Elstob was appointed director of the historic walking tours. He co-founded the California Heritage Guides and, with Helen Shropshire, planned the reenactment of Anza's expedition from Mexico to Alta California, 1775-1776, as part of the national American Revolution bicentennial celebration. A committee was formed and plans devised to follow the journey of the Anza party colonists. Collection consists of scrapbook albums, photographs, letters and articles documenting the Anza bicentennial committee activities and expedition reenactment.

Letters and other documents; consists of 7 volumes of typewritten transcripts created in 1925 from the original manuscripts. Vols. 1-5, 1736-1740, cover discovery of silver at Arizonac in the jurisdiction of Juan Bautista de Anza, and the question of whether the find is a mine or hidden treasure, the answer of which affected ownership rights. Vol. 6 and the first half of Vol. 7 deal with the governorship of Juan Bautista de Anza (son of above mentioned) in New Mexico, and his policies toward the Moquis, 1775-1782. The second half of Vol. 7, 1778-1795, concerns the career of José de Zúniga, including his expedition from Tucson to Zuni.

Heizer directed important field work in the Sacramento Valley of California, near Lovelock, Nevada, and the Mayan sites of La Venta, Tabasco, Mexico and Abaj Takalik, Guatemala. He published more than 500 books and articles concerning archaeology and anthropology. He served as an expert witness in the Indian land claims cases Clyde F. Thompson et. al. v. United States, Docket No. 31, and Ernest Risling et. al. v. United States, Docket No. 37.
