Primarily composed of a fragmented set of incoming business correspondence of James Dunwoody Brownson De Bow (1820-1867), his son, James Dunwoody Brownson De Bow (1861-1947), and the wife of the latter, Sarah Spence De Bow, collected by Martha De Bow Casey. 29 letters are addressed to J.D.B. De Bow, Sr. Among the senders are George Bancroft, Aaron V. Brown, W.G. Brownlow, James Buchanan, John C. Calhoun, Horace Greeley, C.G. Memminger, Joel R. Poinsett, Alexander H. Stephens, George Ticknor, William Henry Trescott, John Tyler, Jr., and Henry A. Wise. Subjects covered are De Bow's literary articles and journals, internal improvements in the South, the Louisiana Historical Society, census, and financial aid to the Confederacy. J.D.B. De Bow, Jr. is the recipient of 9 letters, the bulk of which are written by Tennessee governors Henry H. Horton, Austin Peay, A.H. Roberts, and A.A. Taylor. Various Tennessee topics are discussed. Mrs. Sarah Spence De Bow received 22 letters which are responses to her concern about the Methodist Episcopal Church, South becoming politicized and her support of Herbert Hoover in the presidential contest of 1928. Her correspondents include James A. Farley, Carter Glass, Kenneth McKellar, H.L. Mencken, J.J. Raskob, and Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt. The balance of the correspondence consists of 15 letters apparently addressed to different individuals outside the De Bow family. Prominent among them are Thomas Hart Benton, Benjamin Harrison, Rutherford B. Hayes, J.D. Howard (Jesse James), William McKinley, Mary N. Murfree (Charles Egbert Craddock), John Randolph, John Tyler, and Martin Van Buren. The collection also includes an account of Benjamin Rush, 1791, and an affidavit signed by John Sevier, 1801.

Papers, primarily correspondence, of Cordell Hull. Incoming correspondence focuses on the 1928 presidential election contest between Alfred E. Smith and Herbert Hoover, including references to anti-Catholic and prohibitionist propaganda circulated by Smith's enemies. Much of this material concerns the Smith-Hoover contest in Tennessee, one of several Southern states which in 1928 went Republican for the first time since the Civil War. Letters also shed light on Hull's own campaign for reelection as U.S. Representative from Tennessee's Fourth District as well as inner workings of the Democratic Party in Tennessee. Some letters concern the 1932 election, especially the gubernatorial contest in Tennessee between Hill McAlister and Lewis S. Pope. Almost all outgoing correspondence concerns the 1928 elections, chiefly Hull's own reelection campaign. Some letters of Hull family members are also included. Other materials include biographical data, land records, clippings, speeches and writings of Cordell Hull, and Hull's voting record in Congress, 1919-1921. Prominent correspondents include James B. This collection documents the life of Bankhead (1872-1946), particularly that part of his career in the U.S. Senate involving agriculture and farm tenancy. Other aspects of his senatorial career are not as well documented. His personal life and political campaigns also are represented, as is his work in 1940 with the Democratic National Committee. There are several good photographs of the former Senator, however, as well as other family members. Of interest are the folders of correspondence between Bankhead (1872-1946) and his sister, Marie B. Owen. U.S. and Ala. political, economic, and social issues are discussed in great detail, as is the Ala. Dept. of Archives and History. Also of interest are the "turtle" letters to his granddaughter Louise B. Davis, written while Bankhead (1872-1946) recovered from illness in 1936-1937.

The collection contains four letters regarding Brasfield's service including a letter home from his training camp in Allentown, Pa., 1917; a letter from U.S. Senator Kenneth McKellar recommending Brasfield for a commission, 1917; and letter to him from "Simone" on life in Paris after he left, 1919. A pocket diary, 1917 December 25 to 1919 April 20, contains extremely brief entries tracking the movement of the section with a few personal notes as well as names and addresses of fellow section members. Loose sheets contain duplicates of the diary entries sent home for safekeeping. The collection also contains a miscellaneous group of passes, clippings and other items pertinent to his service including his French driver's license, and a sheet of University of Virginia songs with a postcard of a serpentine wall. The collection also contains a group of 82 "snapshot" photographs of Brasfield and the SS 516, and 34 French postcards, many of which are annotated by him. Memorabilia include his leather wallet, a small 48 star silk flag carried by him, his "rooster" shoulder insignia, his "Winged A" collar insignia, a Croix de Guerre, and a large group photograph of the SS 516 holding their banner with three of their ambulances in the background.

After his retirement in 1940, Faw took up genealogical research. There are three boxes of genealogical materials on the Faw, Hardeman, and related families. The legal documents series includes the incorporation papers of the towns of Franklin and Summertown, Tennessee.
