This collection consists of letters, poems, a resolution, sermons, and speeches of Rev. David Gardiner Phillips and his son, Judge William Little Phillips. Folders 1 and 2 contain Rev. David Gardiner Phillips' sermons, letters, a resolution, and speeches dating from 1845 to 1898. Folder 3 contains three speeches by Judge William Little Phillips' (1876-1919), a book of transcribed poems written by William (1998-1933), and a memorial of William written by Rufus G. Price upon his death in 1937. Collection materials date from 1845-1937. The collection was donated in memory of W.W. Abbot, III a descendent of Rev. David Gardiner Phillips.

Sam and Bess Woolford were journalists and historians working in Texas in the twentieth century. The collection's manuscripts, research notes and other material document Texas history and folklore. A large number of Texas newspapers are also included. Most of the material dates from 1930-1975. Mr. Woolford wrote a column in the from 1955 to 1975. The column spanned topics such as Texan archeology, Texan history and biographies of Texans. Most of these columns are in the collection.
