While at Pepperdine, Holland was involved with several major projects and improvements including the consolidation of collections, implementing the computerized Virginia Tech Library System, expanding the University Archives, participating in the USC electronic library consortium, and the development of the Pepperdine Plaza and other center libraries. In addition to these activities, Holland was instrumental in the planning and renovation of Payson Library. Holland retired from the position of Library Director in 1989 but remained at Pepperdine University in Special Collections and Rare Books for several years.Before his appointment at Pepperdine, Holland served as a Associate Professor in the Department of Library Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 1976, Holland received his D.L.S. from the University of Missouri-Columbia and subsequently his dissertation Religious Periodicals in Development of Nashville, Tennessee as a Regional Publishing Center, 1830-1880 was published. Holland also taught at Pahlavic University (Shiraz, Iran), Appalachian Teachers College, the University of Oklahoma, and Ibaraki Christian College (Japan). In addition to his teaching duties, he served as a minister of the Churches of Christ in Tennessee. Holland was very active in the library community writing articles for various publications and serving in many organizations including ALA (American Library Association), EDUCOM, CAL/PALS (California Private Academic Libraries), and the AICCU (Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities.
