Letter #1: 1922 Mar 23. Explains in detail why he has asked him [Jones] to recall a notice from Nebraska State Journal, although the notice was published in The Star. He encloses a proof of a newspaper paragraph with "Killed at request of Mr. Roseborough" and "Will Owen Jones" written on it in pencil. The article concerned Mme. Matzenauer and her intention to include some songs composed by Lieurance in her coming recital in Lincoln, Nebraska, and names the four songs. Letter #2: 1923 Sep 29. Answers a note from Jones, saying he is about to leave for "our concert tour...and will try to have luncheon with you about November 1st." He encloses a notice of "our joint appearance with the Tabernacle Choir at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City...on November 22nd." He remarks that the "Mormons are interested in my program and the Indian feature as it connects up pretty closely with the Book of Mormon History, at least the scientific part, the whole tone scale of the Indian flute which can be traced back through many generations of races. The Mormons, of course, believe that the Indians are one of the lost tribes of Israel."

Collection contains materials collected by Slonimsky throughout his lifetime that document his life and work as musicologist, composer, conductor, lecturer and author. Included are personal biographical materials; Slonimsky's writings (drafts, typescripts, reprints, etc.) of newspaper, periodical, journal, and magazine articles, record liner notes, radio broadcasts, and talks, published and unpublished; music composed by Slonimsky, manuscript and printed; concert programs; correspondence, among many others, with Henry Cowell, Alexandre Gretchaninoff, Roy Harris, Charles Ives, and Edgar Varèse; biographical materials on composers and performers mosly generated when Slonimsky was editing Baker's and The international cyclopedia; music collected by Slonimsky, manuscript and printed and multi-composer collections; among the manuscripts are many short holographic works and fragments; scrapbooks; and iconographical material, such as family photographs an those of composers and musicians from the former Soviet Union, as well as little known musicians from the United States and elsewhere.

Weekly 30-minute NBC radio broadcasts, featuring classical and light classical music, which began on Apr. 29, 1940 and continued until 1958. In September, 1959, the Bell Telephone Hour made its television debut as a monthly musical special. It remained a regular television program until April 26, 1968. Library's holdings incomplete. Broadcasts chiefly originated from New York City, sponsored by the Bell Telephone Company (American Telephone and Telegraph). Each 30-minute program generally features a guest singer or instrumentalist, with the Bell Telephone Hour Orchestra, conducted by Donald Voorhees, and the Bell Telephone Hour Chorus. Frequent guest artists include Marian Anderson, Robert Casadesus, Nelson Eddy, Josef Hofmann, Fritz Kreisler, Oscar Levant, James Melton, Grace Moore, Ezio Pinza, Lily Pons, Bidú Sayão, Gladys Swarthout, John Charles Thomas, Helen Traubel, and Eileen Farrell. Chief announcer: Floyd Mack.

Nordskog, Andrae B. The Andrae B. Nordskog Collection, 1905-1971.

Title: The Andrae B. Nordskog Collection, 1905-1971.

Articles, booklets, correspondence, news clippings, statements, speeches, writings related to Nordskog's interest and activity on public utilities, music, transportation, California water issues, Federal Reserve Banks, and electoral college reform. The records contained in the Andrae B. Nordskog Collection document his lifetime involvement in musical interests and reform issues, predominantly from 1909-1962. The bulk of the collection deals with his involvement in political reform relating to constitutional law, government monetary policy and public utilities, especially in Southern California water-related issues. A signifigant portion of the collection documents his musical career, including his involvement with the Hollywood Bowl and the Santa Monica Bay Cities Philharmonic Courses. His singing career also included performing a lead tenor for the Standard Grand Opera Company of Seattle and for the Knickerbocker Light Opera Company in Los Angeles. His musical career extended past performing to establishing the first phonograph recording company on the Pacific Coast, named Nordskog Records. Along with recording "Cyclonic" Eva Tanguay and Thurlow Lieurance, he was the first to record New Orleans jazz music by African-American artists.
