These letters include information on campaigns, including the Battle of Fredericksburg (Va.) 1862, camp, life, medical conditions, family concerns and news of friends in the war.

These papers of the Bass family include the records of Hartwell and Elizabeth Bass, their son Demetrius Bass, their son-in-law Peter Alexander Greene, and records relating to Elizabeth's relatives, A.C. and Joseph Moreland. The Records of Hartwell and Elizabeth Bass (1839-1855) include U.S. land grants and receipts for the sale of cotton. Demetrius Moreland Bass' papers (1854-1861) include receipts, promissory notes and a commission from the Western Military Academy in Nashville, Tenn. Particularly interesting are papers that document the buying of horses and the managing of slaves in Texas. The papers of Peter Alexander Green (1873-1901), include receipts and correspondence. One of the letters elicits support for Joseph F. Johnston as a candidate for governor of Alabama.
