Bell Irvin Wiley (1906-1980), born in Hall, Tennessee, married Mary Frances Harrison in 1938; they had two sons. In 1949 Wiley was appointed professor of history at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he remained until retirement in 1974. He was particularly interested in the Civil War and published widely in that area.
