John Mitchell Davidson, merchant and soldier, was born 21 October 1829 in North Carolina, and died 17 January 1917, place unknown. He was a shopkeeper in Copperhill, Tennessee (1856-1861), and served (1862-1864) as a lieutenant in Company C, 39th Regiment, North Carolina Volunteers. While Davidson was in the Confederate Army, his wife Julia Dunn Davidson lived in Atlanta, where her family operated a hotel. After the war, Davidson became a station agent for the Western & Atlantic Railroad.
