Hartley commanded two regiments, Hartley's Additional Continental Regiment (Jan. 1, 1777-Jan. 13, 1779) and the 11th Pennsylvania Regiment (Jan. 13-Feb. 13, 1779), before resigning to accept a seat in the Pennsylvania Assembly.
