Diary of Wm. C. Butler, 1880-1916 (bulk 1880-1881).

Contains Butler's diary (including especially his attempts to secure a position in his chosen line of work and notes about his conversion and church activities) and tabulation of personal income and expenses for the years 1880 and 1881. In addition, Butler writes about his stay in Atlantic City, NJ during the summers of 1881: leaves 1-77. There is a biographical sketch of his father on leaves 78-84 and a sketch of his mother on leaves 85-88.

William Colflesh Butler, son of William (1819-1881) and Margaret Gaul Butler (1821-1916), was an aspiring ornamental sign painter and an active member of the Mantua Baptist Church in Philadelphia at the time this diary was written.
