Butler, William Colflesh, 1859-
William Colflesh Butler, son of William (1819-1881) and Margaret Gaul Butler (1821-1916), was an aspiring ornamental sign painter and an active member of the Mantua Baptist Church in Philadelphia at the time this diary was written. He was born on 15 February 1859, his two older sisters having earlier died in infancy. His uncle was the noted botanist, horticulturist, and author, Thomas Meehan.
