Disposition Authorities for Individual Classifications for Headquarters Case Files. Part B: Classification 155. National Aeronautics and Space Act of 1958.

The FBI established this classification in 1958 to cover the Bureau's responsibility regarding NASA. Assistant Attorney General Henry Peterson clarified the Bureau's jurisdiction and responsibility in 1974 as the "more serious violations" of secure areas, bribery, perjury, conflict of interest, and sabotage. NASA is responsible for protecting its facilities and for investigating routine violations of the 1958 Act.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants. Each plant survey was a separate case file, with the survey, supplemental surveys, and all communications dealing with a plant insofar as plant protection was concerned, filed together.
