The papers include correspondence, both incoming (1841-1861) and outgoing (1824-1864). The incoming correspondence covers several topics, including the engagement of her eldest daughter, Victorine du Pont Kemble, and debts owed to her late husband's estate. The most interesting outgoing letter was written to her stepmother, Anna Lammot, written shortly after her marriage to Alfred du Pont describing her new life as a wife. Other papers include: copy book, 1820; receipts, 1853, 1856, 1858; probate records of Alfred V. du Pont, 1856; and cancelled checks, 1860s.

Lammot du Pont was born at Nemours, Delaware, on April 13, 1831. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in engineering, he began work for E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. By 1859 he was supervising construction of blasting powder mills at Wapwallopen Mills, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, the first Du Pont mills outside the state of Delaware. Margaretta Elizabeth Lammot was a daughter of Daniel Lammot (1782-1877) and Susan Parham Beck Lammot (1786-1817) of Philadelphia.
