Du Pont, Margaretta Lammot, 1807-1898
Variant namesMargaretta Elizabeth Lammot was a daughter of Daniel Lammot (1782-1877) and Susan Parham Beck Lammot (1786-1817) of Philadelphia. In 1824, she married Alfred Victor du Pont, a son of Eleuthère Irénée du Pont and Sophie Madeleine Dalmas du Pont. Alfred V. du Pont joined the family firm of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company in 1818 and eventually became senior partner. He resigned from the firm in 1850.
Alfred and Margaretta du Pont lived at Nemours on the family property outside Wilmington, Del. They had seven children. Margaretta du Pont helped establish a Swedenborgian congregation in Wilmington. After her husband's death, she moved to another residence, Goodstay, located in Wilmington, where she resided until her death.
