[Oliver Cromwell medal] [realia]. [1653]

Silver medal by Thomas Simon, chief engraver to the Royal Mint, commemorating Cromwell's inauguration as Lord Protector in 1653. On the obverse, Cromwell in profile, facing left, thus circumscribed: "OLIVARUS·DEI·GRA·REPVB·ANGLIÆ·SCO·ET·HIB·PROTECTOR" and "THO SIMON F". On the reverse, a lion sejant, with the arms, quarterly, of England, Scotland, and Ireland, with a scutcheon of pretence in the middle, containing the arms of Cromwell, thus circumscribed: "PAX · QVÆRITVR · BELLO."
