This collection contains letters, financial papers, receipts, newspaper clippings, miscellaneous papers, a few pictures, theatre and opera pamphlets and clippings, brochures, and travel papers. The materials in the collection include the papers of mayor Louis Marcus; Gertrude Marcus' s papers as the president of the Salt Lake chapter of the Women's National Aeronautical Association which, along with information on the association, contains many newspaper articles on various flyers including Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh, and "The bat man," Clem Sohn; letters from the Second World War back forth between soldiers and family and friends back home, as well as a few newspapers; a few Stanford records and course offers from the 1930s and 1940s; brochures and maps from the 1930s and 1940s, including one of Havana from 1940s; and materials related to the theatre during the early 1900s. There is also a Flag of Destiny Vol. II piece by C. Switzer, with a picture portraying Francis Scott Key and the flag, a text about the piece and a copy of the original manuscript of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

Howard Marcus was born on April 22, 1919 to Louis and Gertrude Levin Marcus. His father, Louis Marcus, was a civic and business leader, and served as mayor of Salt Lake City from 1931-1935. Howard graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City, then went on to get his bachelor's from Stanford, and went to Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
