Marcus, L. Howard (Lewis Howard), 1919-1984
Variant namesHoward Marcus was born on April 22, 1919 to Louis and Gertrude Levin Marcus. His father, Louis Marcus, was a civic and business leader, and served as mayor of Salt Lake City from 1931-1935. Howard graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City, then went on to get his bachelor's from Stanford, and went to Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. He held various positions: vice chairman of the Salt Lake County Planning Commission, appointee of the Tracy Advisory Board, trustee of the National Hemophilia Foundation, chairman of the Salt Lake Aviary Commission, member of the Utah Symphony board of trustees (1948-1951), president of Duckville Gun Club and Utah Skeet Shooting Association, member of Holladay Gun Club, vice president of R.T. Harris Advertising Agency and president of Tower Theater, president and general manager of First Capitol Corp of Utah (1962-1965), member of Congregations Kol Ami and B'nai B'rith, chairman of Israel drive for Utah and trustee and treasurer for Congregation B'nai Israel. He married Wilma Ferderber on April 10, 1947 in Los Angeles, and had three sons: Stephan, William, and Roger. He died on Feb. 13, 1984 of heart complications.
Louis Marcus (1880-1936) was a civic and business leader, and served as mayor of Salt Lake City, Utah from 1931 to 1935.
Gertrude Levin Marcus (1885-1955) was the wife of Salt Lake City, Utah politician and businessman Louis Marcus.
