Catalog of the Earl of Galloway's library at Galloway House [manuscript], Wigtownshire, Scotland, ca. 1797-1837.

Manuscript catalog, nearly all in single neat old hand probably compiled in 1797 ("Nov. 1797" written on verso of leaf 80 and recto of leaf [81]), with a few entries added later. Some entries have annotations dating from 1837, e.g. "Missing, March 16th, 1837." Entries include short title, number of volumes, "no." (probably an accession number), place of imprint, and imprint date, and they are organized in no discernible order by subject, which are entered alphabetically, e.g., "Antiquities," "Antiquities, architecture, biography," "Chronology," "Descriptions," "Dictionaries," "Divinity," etc. Books are primarily from the 17th and 18th centuries. Also laid in, "A list of the complete lots of books at the unnumbered [lids?] of the library at G. House" ([7] p.), signed "Thomas Flagg, witness, Donald McGregor, witness." Signature of witnesses on catalog and laid-in addendum suggests that it may have also been used as an estate inventory.
