Heraldic papers, old leases, etc., 19th cent.

Collection of documents belonging to R.T.N., accompanied by a letter of transmittal to one "Clifford" dated June 5, 1933. The following materials are included: an undated description of a memorial brass for Sir Hugh Hastings; undated leasehold investments, with notes and drawings of brasses; undated transcriptions of funerary inscriptions, accompanied by descriptions and, in some cases drawings of, brasses. The collection also includes: a letter of invitation addressed to J.N. Frost from the London and Middlesex Archaeological Society (Dec. 2,, 1838); invitations dated Aug. 9, 1858 and Sept. 27, 1859, respectively, each annotated with various transcriptions (from sepulchral monuments?); a grand jury summons addressed to John N. Frost, dated Dec. 21, 1863.

Janet S. Byrne was a curator in the Department of Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During her 47-year career at the Museum, she developed a picture file of bookbindings and their descriptions that was rediscovered in the fall of 1993 when the Department of Drawings and Prints was preparing a survey of British illustrated books.
