Janet S. Byrne was a curator in the Department of Prints at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During her 47-year career at the Museum, she developed a picture file of bookbindings and their descriptions that was rediscovered in the fall of 1993 when the Department of Drawings and Prints was preparing a survey of British illustrated books. The file was presented to the Museum's Thomas J. Watson Library for conservation, organization and retention.

Moore, whose firm manufactured silverware exclusively for Tiffany & Co. between 1851 and 1868, headed Tiffany's silver department from 1868 until his death. Moore bequeathed both his extensive art collection and personal library to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The library gift was noted in the Museum's 22nd annual report (year ending 1891) as numbering some 500 books, and in the 23rd annual report (year ending 1892) was stated as comprising 460 volumes. The Museum's 1915 annual report noted an additional 98 volumes and 87 photographs bequeathed to the Library by Moore's son, Edward C. Moore, Jr. All these works were kept together in a special room within the Library until Jan. 1965 when they were integrated into the general collection of the new Thomas J. Watson Library.
